Urban Forest Management Plan Survey

The Town of Mahone Bay believes that trees are essential to the health, beauty, and prosperity of our community. Our urban forest is a unique and valuable resource—one that begins along our sidewalks, extends into front and backyards, and continues through the natural spaces between homes, roads, and waterways.

A healthy urban forest provides a wide range of benefits, from enhancing neighbourhood character and environmental health to supporting climate resilience and overall quality of life. By caring for our trees today, we help create a stronger, greener, and more sustainable Mahone Bay for generations to come.

Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP)

Mahone Bay’s Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) is a long-term strategy designed to ensure that trees remain a lasting and intentional part of the town’s landscape.

An Urban Forest Management Plan serves as a roadmap for protecting, maintaining, and growing a community’s urban forest. It typically includes:

  • An inventory of existing trees
  • A long-term vision with clear goals and priorities
  • An implementation plan outlining actions and responsibilities
  • A monitoring framework to track progress and effectiveness

Guided by data and best practices, the UFMP supports informed decision-making, helps prioritize planting and tree care, guides future development, and strengthens the community’s ability to adapt to challenges such as climate change.
